McCaw Veterinary Associates has a rich history spanning back to its opening in 1974. As with any practice that’s been in business for half a century, there have been many changes. Nevertheless, the staff at McCaw Veterinary Associates has never compromised its dedication to provide the best possible veterinary care to all of its patients.

Our History
1974:Â Dr. Bill McCaw Sr. graduated from Auburn in 1974. He then began a mixed large and small animal practice in the basement of a duplex on Glencove Drive in Nicholasville, Kentucky. His wife Jean McCaw was his first employee! Dr. Will McCaw Jr. was born in October of that year.Â
1980: McCaw Vet, as it was named then, relocated to a newly built facility at its current location at 501 N. Main Street, Nicholasville, Kentucky.
2001: Dr. Will McCaw Jr. graduated from Auburn and joined the practice alongside his father.
2006: A new wing was added to the original building. This addition included a large surgery room, dental room, an examination space, and upstairs office spaces.
2015: Dr. Tim Twehues, an Auburn graduate, joined the practice.
2017: Dr. Sara Clay Howe, an Auburn graduate, joined the practice.

Dr. Bill McCaw graduated from Auburn University in 1974 as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Bill came from humble beginnings, growing up on a cattle and tobacco farm in Lexington, KY. Soon after graduation he founded McCaw Vet Clinic here in Jessamine County. He lives in Nicholasville on his farm with his wife, Jean.
Dr. Will McCaw graduated from Auburn University in 2001 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Will lives in Nicholasville with his wife Laura and English Bulldog, Waylon. He has two children, Lily and John Tyler, who are in college.
Dr. Tim Twehues graduated veterinary school from Auburn University in 2014. He lives in Nicholasville on a cattle farm with his wife, Kelsey, four children, Colt, Jake, Taylor, and Caleb, and his dogs, Dolly and Loretta!
Dr. Sara Clay Howe graduated veterinary school from Auburn University in 2014. She is originally from Birmingham, Alabama and now lives in Lexington, KY with her husband, Boston, daughter McNeill, and son, Clayton. She has three dogs Bea, Newt, and Lucy, and a cat, Hutch.
Technicians
Dawn has worked here as a Vet Technician since 2006. She is from Lexington, Kentucky. Dawn is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and has been working in Veterinary Medicine since 2002. She loves cats, and owns several of them currently.
Emily has been with our clinic since 2019. She is from Nicholasville, KY. She became a full time employee at MVA in 2023. Emily has a Golden Retriever named Moose.
Emma has worked at MVA since May of 2023. She lives in Harrodsburg, KY with her fiance Jacob. She graduated from MedQuest college and is a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She has two dogs named Dutchess and Willie, and a cat named Bob.
Kaela began working at MVA full-time in February 2024. She graduated from MedQuest College and is a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
Kaley began working with MVA in the summer of 2023. She lives in Nicholasville, KY. Kaley is a Licensed Veterinary Technician. She graduated Morehead University with an Associates Degree in 2024, she is now seeking out a bachelors in Veterinary Technology. She has an Australian Shepherd named Covi!
Lily began working at MVA in 2023. She is currently a pre-vet student at EKU. Lily runs a produce stand and butcher shop, and lives on a farm in Nicholasville with cattle, horses, and dogs.
Hannah began working at MVA in the spring of 2025. She is originally from Lawrenceburg, where she still lives with her fiancé, Eric. She graduated from Medquest College in February 2025 and owns one dog named Styxx.
Receptionists
Vindy is from Nicholasville, KY where she still lives with her husband Bob, and her two dogs Penelope and Kaiser. She also owns two birds; a macaw named Jack, and our former clinic bird, Rudy!
Victoria lives in Wilmore with her husband Clay and son Christopher. She has four cats: Tacky, Boots, Moonlight, and Sonny!
Maggie grew up in Nicholasville, KY, where she still lives with her husband Jimmy, and two cats, Toby and Stella.
